Donna Denniihy-Early Girl

This my first post for "Friday Music Local Brews, every Friday morning I going to post a featured recording from a favorite FingerLakes musician or group. Please feel free to share with friends. Today on the morning drive I had a listen to the recent release “Early Girl" from Donna Dennihy. I just love the vocal harmonies, sweet acoustic guitar sound and mandolin lines by Jon Peterson. This is a must have for your local music brew collection.

Donna's songs are like short stories with beautiful pictures to guide us. A long time member of Edgy Folk, Donna's melodies and lyrics take center stage on this release. She is joined by some other seasoned CNY musicians including her longtime collaborator Jon Peterson, Kevin Dorsey, and Loren Barrigar.  A highlight is the song “Harriett” which tells the Tubman story and how slavery wounded our nation. I love Donna’s first line of the song,

“I looked at my hands to see,” said Harriet, pushin’ up her sleeves,
“To see if I was the same…now that I was free.

History’s Hometown should really take pride in this talented local artist. I encourage you to go the CD Baby link, buy the CD, and read the lyrics as you listen. Unless you’re driving as I was of course!  I read them at the stop lights.
It is sure to be a wonderful musical experience!
